The Selfish Giant
UK, 2013

It's so grim up North

The film follows two working-class lads in the outskirts of Bradford. It is a grim environment they grow up in, with their poverty-stricken families in a post-industrial setting.

The story follows them as they drop out of school and get entangled in petty crime, with devastating consequences. We follow two buddies with different characters as they grow up ahead of their time, forced by the pressing problems of their families and their environment.

The boys and their families look stuck in an uninspiring, hopeless reality that creates mostly dissapointment and anger.

The film is not making a straight political statement; it is though a realistic portrayal  of a grim reality, that combines homour with drama.
